.on holiday.

i like the brits' (and i think europeans. well. shit, anyone but the U.S. really) use of the word "holiday" i think going "on holiday" sounds a lot more amusing than "on vacation". holiday just sounds fun.

anyway. i'm leaving tomorrow for the desert. i have yet to go shopping for groceries and other sundry items i need. i'm waiting for a load of laundry to dry. i didn't get out of bed today until somewhere around noon. it's slow going, this leaving thing. i'll be out there for three weeks.

three weeks minus two days, of course. since my graduate studies start two weeks before i get back, i've decided to come back into reality/the city and attend my two classes. i'm very glad that i only live two or so hours away from the Black Rock Desert and can do this. otherwise, i think my life would be harder. (that whole paying for school by working the event and not being able to go to the event because i have to go to school but not being able to go to school because i can't pay for it because i'm not going to the event rock and hard place thing.)

[although my dad is loaning me money left and right these days. i needed cash for the deposit/first month's rent for my new place. and i needed the money to pay for my school before i got paid for working in the desert. it's been a summer for bad timing. i needed the house money by the 5th and didn't get paid until the 10th. i have to pay for school but don't get paid until two weeks in. i don't like borrowing money from my dad. i managed to get through college without calling and asking him for money. (he did throw down for my tuition, though) i owe him big. and when i was a kid i didn't realize that he is just another person who pays bills, buys food, etc etc.. and now i understand he's on the same level as myself, in a way. just trying to get by, i guess. would be the level.]

but i digress.

this was all supposed to be a disclaimer about my being gone for the next three weeks. i will be out with the masses, living out of a tent, drinking gallons of water and being happy.
