all along the clocktower..

clocktower Posted by Hello

when i was a freshman in college, my new friend amy and i would take off running at midnight, excusing ourselves from whatever and whomever we were around and laugh our way to the clocktower that sits in the middle of the Morrison Quadrangle.. we did this for months.. we would run to the clocktower and put our hands to it.. we would giggle at the idea of people thinking we were crazy or stupid and we would walk back to our dorm building talking about whatever.. we didn't do this forever, of course.. i started hanging out with the "weird kids" who lived in the same wing as i did.. she found others to spend her late nights with.. she was my first friend at college and whenever i see the clocktower, i think of those nights..

being back in c-town a whole year after i'd left was very odd.. it wasn't just because the road construction i was expecting between les bois and farm city wasn't there.. or that the old house right near the college that's been under construction since those nights i spent running out to the clocktower still sat unfinished.. it was like coming home to a place that wasn't home anymore.. comforting displacement..

i saw most of the people i wished to see while i was there.. a few key people were missing.. but they all have their reasons.. (new bartending jobs, girlfriends coming back from spain, unable to make it back into the country, etc etc etc..) but i did see some of my favorite people and ate at some of my favorite places... i slept two nights under the stars in farm city.. appropriately on a couch that sits up against the side of a college house in my sleeping bag.. (waking suddenly the next morning to a chainsaw and neighbors yelling at their kids) i stayed up late most nights and spent a good amount of time in good conversation.. it was nice..

i like spending my time having conversations with the people i adore..
